Job Description Digital Services is primarily an in-house team supported by a small third-party DevSecOps function. We are transitioning from a hybrid partnership to an entirely in-house model, consolidating our technology stack and replacing legacy systems. This is an exciting opportunity to shape our digital services and work towards a sustainable, user-centric future. We invite you to be part of this new team. Digital Services is part of Change and Technology Services (CTS), which supports and enhances applications and systems across the agency's IT landscape. CTS provides key services including digital services, cybersecurity, information governance, service architecture, governance, and digital programme delivery. Responsibilities Support the Lead Software Engineer and Technical Architect in developing, improving, and maintaining digital services using Java, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PL-SQL on the Azure platform. Enhance digital services in accordance with Government Digital Standards. Promote knowledge sharing and best practices within the team. Provide expert advice and guidance to teams within Digital Services, including operations, product management, and QA leads. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, fostering strong relationships and addressing challenges. Advocate for user-centric, agile development practices that ensure efficient and high-quality service delivery. Embed modern development practices such as Behaviour and Test-Driven Development, continuous deployment, and DevOps to transform government digital services. Person Specification The ideal candidate will have: Proven knowledge of Java, HTML, CSS, JavaScript. Experience with various integration methods including real-time, scheduled, API, batch, and messaging services. Experience with Spring Boot. Understanding of good documentation practices. Enthusiasm for knowledge sharing and mentoring. Knowledge of modern development practices like BDD, TDD, CI/CD, DevOps, using workflows such as GitHub, and design principles like clean architecture, OOP, SOLID, RESTful APIs. Awareness of web application security, including the OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities.
